Dear Board of Directors of TOFF.
Once upon a time, I knew Tom, and would visit him and Durk, and the creative community that thrived there on Laveta Terrace. It was the ONLY sort of creative venue of it's kind for us Gay Artists and supporters, something I greatly valued then and now. After Tom's passing I have continued to visit through the years, and have always been much impressed by the singular determination kept toward not just creating a safe repository for Tom's work, but their larger efforts to support and foster ALL erotic Art, and Artists. Such an oasis is rare anywhere, but even more necessary in the divisive world we now live in. I view this House not just as Tom's legacy, but as his collective, living, on going legacy for the future. His work is and always has been indivisible from the home he placed it in. May I inquire WHO are you to alter in form and function this hard won safe space? I KNOW Tom would never have wanted this. What right do you believe you have to abandon the focus of so many others lifework, and creative creation there? Is it a matter of money, power, or control? Tom's House has always been about more than a collection of Art, it has been a space for the rest of us. A nurturing environment that speaks of community, creativity, and the courage of individuals to give their expression, much like Tom. I urge you to reconsider your actions to date. It speaks of a cultural crime, and theft of the humanity Tom and Durk have lovingly created for ALL of us there. I ask again, who are you to do this?
